Around 1 a.m. on August 19, 2026, golf-ball-sized (1.75-inch) hail fell across Wyandotte County — Piper, Village West, Bonner Springs, and Edwardsville — and north into Gladstone, Riverside, and Parkville, with 70–80 mph winds and about 25,000 power outages. Dent Elements' shop in Edwardsville was inside the storm footprint. If your car was parked outside that night, check the roof, hood, and trunk.

What happened

A line of severe storms crossed the metro in the early morning hours. Hail up to 1.75 inches was reported in western Wyandotte County, with damaging winds knocking out power to roughly 25,000 customers.
