Insurance & costs

What your policy covers, your rights in Kansas and Missouri, the paperwork we handle — and what repairs actually cost, not "call for pricing."

The short answer

Hail damage to a car is covered by the comprehensive portion of an auto policy — you pay your deductible and the insurer pays the rest. In Kansas and Missouri you choose your own repair shop. Without insurance, paintless dent repair in Kansas City typically costs $75–$150 for a door ding, $150–$300 for a single dent, $300–$750+ for creases, and $150–$450 per panel for hail. Dent Elements in Edwardsville, Kansas, writes the estimate, works with your adjuster, and files any supplements.

What we handle for you

  1. Inspection and estimate. Every panel under reflection lights, written as a dent-matrix estimate your insurer recognizes.
  2. Adjuster coordination. We send photos and the estimate, and meet with the adjuster if needed.
  3. Supplements. If more damage turns up once work starts, we document it and file for the difference.
  4. Final paperwork. Invoice and photos for your file and your insurer’s.

Your rights in Kansas and Missouri

  • You choose the shop. Your insurer can recommend a shop, but it can’t require you to use one.
  • You get a written estimate. Don’t let anyone start work without an itemized estimate.
  • We’re your advocate. It’s our job to get you the result you want — without the hassle or headaches.

Deductible math, worked through

Say your hail repair is approved at $3,800 and your comprehensive deductible is $500.

Amount
Approved repair $3,800
Your deductible (you pay) $500
Insurer pays $3,300

If we find more damage once the work starts — a dent hidden under a roof rail, say — we file a supplement. The insurer pays the additional amount. Your deductible doesn’t change.

Will my rates go up?

Weather claims under comprehensive coverage are generally treated differently from at-fault accidents. That said, every insurer sets its own rules. If you’re concerned, ask your agent before you file.

What repairs cost

The six things that move the price

Factor Why it matters
Size Larger dents take more pushes to bring up evenly.
Depth Deep dents stretch the metal; restoring them takes more time.
Location Body lines, edges, and double-walled areas are harder to reach and shape.
Panel Roofs and roof rails may need the headliner dropped for access.
Material Aluminum is stiffer and less forgiving than steel.
Access Removing tail lamps, trim, or interior panels adds labor.

How hail is priced

Hail is priced per panel with a dent matrix: the number of dents on the panel and their average size set the base price, then add-ons cover aluminum, oversized dents, and parts removal. Insurers use the same system, which is why hail estimates from reputable shops tend to line up with adjusters’ numbers.

Questions we get every week

Is PDR covered by insurance?

PDR is a repair method, not a type of coverage. If the damage itself is covered — hail under comprehensive, for example — PDR is a covered way to fix it.

Do I have to get my insurer's estimate first?

Not necessarily. Some insurers send an adjuster, some use photo apps, and some let the shop write the estimate. Call your insurer, get a claim number, and bring it with you.

What if the insurance check is less than the repair?

That's common, especially after a storm when adjusters are rushed. We document the damage the adjuster missed and file a supplement with the insurer.

Who gets the check?

It depends on your insurer. Sometimes it's paid to you, sometimes to the shop, sometimes to both (and your lienholder if you have a loan). We'll walk you through it.

Is PDR cheaper than a body shop?

Usually. A body shop repair involves filler, paint, and blending into nearby panels, which adds materials and days. See PDR vs. body shop.

Do you charge for estimates?

No. Photo estimates and in-shop looks are free.
